SANDIEGO: WHAT TO EXPECT

As one of America's most popular tourist destinations, San Diego is located in Southern California. A bustling craft brewery scene, beautiful beaches, great weather, and countless outdoor attractions make San Diego a popular vacation destination. Come for a weekend or stay a few weeks, this place will steal your heart. I put together this ultimate  full of information on the best places to eat, stay, and play. With over 100 days of sunshine a year, it's no wonder they call it America's Finest City.

A SAN DIEGO TOURIST'S GUIDE

It has great weather, amazing beaches, and delicious seafood and Mexican cuisine. You will also notice that San Diego is a very active community, with people walking, biking, or running at all times of the day.

English is the dominant language, with Spanish the second most widely spoken language due to the presence of Mexico's border.

Currency: The US Dollar ($).

Banks and credit cards are widely accepted, including American Express. Many stores have public ATMs as well.

In most parts of the year, San Diego enjoys coastal temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees. It's usually overcast and gloomy in the mornings on the coast, but it usually clears up by 12 PM or so.

July through September are the hottest months. Gray May and June Gloom are popular terms for May and June.

GETTING AROUND SAN DIEGO

A county like San Diego has many cities that fall within its boundaries, and it is a large city with many neighborhoods, and it also has a large number of neighborhoods. San Diego city neighborhoods include:

It is the heart and soul of San Diego, where you can find nightlife, dining, and shopping.

This neighborhood is packed with trendy restaurants, creative cocktail bars, gastropubs, and coffee shops.

The San Diego Zoo and museums are housed in Balboa Park-Hillcrest. Affluent, bohemian, and LGBTQ-friendly, Hillcrest is known for its rich culture.

North Park is an eclectic and diverse neighborhood with cute little cottages, breweries, classic diners, and brewpubs.

Old Town-Mission Valley: Location of first Spanish settlement in California. It is also close to a bus depot, trolley depot, and coaster depot.

Beach towns with boutique shopping and hippie beaches in Point Loma-Ocean Beach.

There is a vibrant nightlife and bar scene in Mission Beach/Pacific Beach, which is a popular party and beach destination. There are some great waves and coffee shops in north Pacific Beach, and lots of great beachfront rental homes in Mission Beach.

There are awesome seafood restaurants in La Jolla, an upscale beach community with stunning coastlines.

Across the famous blue bridge, you'll find San Diego's island resort town. The houses here are picturesque and will make you swoon. On Coronado, there is ALWAYS traffic!

TRAVEL TIP

Since California is not the most public transportation-friendly state, ride-share companies like Uber and Lyft are very common and probably your best option for getting around San Diego, plus parking is hard downtown and near the beach.

If you plan on traveling for a long time or for a specific purpose, renting a car is highly recommended. There are a lot of sights in San Diego County, so if you want to see a lot of them, it's usually easier to drive yourself!

With so many restaurants and attractions within walking distance, Downtown is the best place to stay if you want to see San Diego without renting a car.

As a bonus, if you have the time, I recommend driving up the stunning California coast to Orange County and Los Angeles. A great and efficient way to travel up and down the California coastline is to take the Pacific Surfliner train.

San Diego Accommodations

It is common for visitors to San Diego to dream of staying on the beach. While there are some amazing beachfront hotels, there are also some hidden gems in the neighborhoods surrounding the beach.
